Ballerina Girl…

My baby, her hair in a bun, and bobby pins tucked firmly in place.

Her light pink tights on her not-quite-big-girl legs.

Little wisps of hair falling out of the bun, curling around her face.

Twirling, spinning, falling…

“This is First Position, mama!” My little ballerina girl told me today.

She’s growing up so fast.

I can’t get that Lionel Richie song out of my head.

Because now Nicole’s song, is Olivia’s too.

  • There is something very sweet and iconic about little girls in pink tights and black leotards. Add in the still so young round belly and chubby thighs and everything explodes with the cute. Big moment for mama and daughter.

I never had the chance to take dance, so it is a little bit vicarious living on my part. I want her to WANT to take it, of course, but I can’t help but be secretly thrilled she wanted to.

Piano lessons may make me extremely weepy, as I always wanted to take them.

  • Little girls in ballet shoes kill me dead. I loved taking dance – I felt so graceful and grown up even when I was still a clumsy kid. I know she’s going to appreciate you letting her feel the same way.

I really hope so. If she likes it, we will pursue it, if not, at least I gave her the chance. :)

Seeing things like this makes me want to try for a baby girl tonight! And I love that you will let her pursue it if she enjoys it. As a dance teacher, it’s so frustrating to see moms push their daughters into it for reasons other than making their child happy.

I’m so not a girly girl but dammit if I don’t want to have a girl do ballet AND soccer!
This picture is why I adore your photo skills!

I’m not TOO girly, but I don’t mind when they want to do the girly girl things. It may be because they also enjoy Star Wars, playing soccer, baseball and getting dirty. They’re a little bit of everything.

And thank you for the sweet compliment, I wish I could have taken more, I had a bunch of different ideas, but the class was about to start. :)

  • I love this picture.

I took gymnastics, starting when I was 3. At about 5 our gymnastics teacher suggested that we all also take ballet. I got my new ballet leotard (which was completely different from my gymnastics leotards), my tights, my slippers – I was excited for this. I got to class, and (as my mom tells the story) 5 or 10 minutes into it I sat down and that was the end of that. Refused to do any more ballet.

Short lived career as a dancer.

Hey, at least you knew what you wanted (or didn’t want).

We’re thinking of putting her in gymnastics this summer if the dance studios don’t have summer sessions. I have no idea how it all works, so we will just start calling around this spring ;o)

I agree with Amy, round belly and chubby thighs are too cute. If only I wasn’t so exhausted with my kids, I would have loved to try for a girl.
