I know, I know–it’s been awhile since I posted last. Honestly I did write a post and as I was about to stick it online, the computer went down. I couldn’t remember what I was writing about so I didn’t try to recreate it. Oh well, new month, new opportunity to blog more frequently.

Our trip to visit the relatives went well. I saw so many friends and family members, it was so great to catch up and introduce my little girl to everyone (who all seemed to love her so much!). In fact, I just purchased my tickets to go back for a visit in March–am I a glutton for punishment or what? I kid, I kid. The baby behaved beautifully during her airplane rides. She was the best behaved baby on the entire flight, which was awesome for me (Yeah, I know it’s shallow). We didn’t encounter too much stupidity, just those folks who seem to think a baby is an open invitation to put your fingers in their face. However, I must commend myself: I didn’t freak out and act ugly. Partially because the offenders were older ladies–and you don’t yell at grandmas, you know?

So, we went for the baby’s four month check-up. She weighed in at 13 lbs 13 oz and was 26 inches long. She is still in the 50th percentile for weight, but shot up to be in the 90th percentile for her height. No wonder she wears the pants of a six month old. She had her shots, and I was proud of myself. I didn’t cry as much as usual. I got a bit teary (hey, I’m only human!) but I was able to keep it in check and be a strong mama.

The doctor also told us we could start her on rice cereal, since she seems to watch us when we eat, and she loves to eat…I swear she would nurse all day if I let her. Some would argue it is a bit soon to start, but it seems right for our baby. She loves it. It is a MESSY task, but so much fun. She squeals and coos at us, and seems to really enjoy the food. The doctor said we could also start her on other solids slowly if we wanted, so we are just going to see where the baby takes us and how well she responds, and if she seems to want more.

She wants to roll over on her tummy so badly. She gets halfway there, but doesn’t seem to know what to do with herself once she has rolled over to her side. I can barely put her on her tummy any more, because she just rolls over to her back, but we are still very determined to give her the tummy-time, so she can develop her muscles. She has started to scoot a bit, but we think that is just an accident and she didn’t realize what she was doing.

The only thing I worry about is her sleeping habits. She did so well for awhile, while we were away, she slept for 7 hours at a stretch on two nights. She usually got about 6 hours at a stretch, which is nice, but as soon as we got back home she reverted back to wanting to be up every 3 1/2 to 4 hours. The doctor told us to not feed her when she would get up in the middle of the night, unless she had met the 6 hour sleep-time, and we have TRIED to do that, but when you have a screaming baby in the middle of the night, you tend to do what you can to get her to go back to sleep. I had her for an hour last night, trying to rock her, walk her, bounce her back to sleep, but nothing seemed to work. After 45 minutes, she finally got back to sleep, and I thought I had done it, HOWEVER she woke up 15 minutes later and was just as upset. I finally caved and nursed her. We tried giving her a bit of water, but that only seems to piss her off. I know it is a developmental thing and she will eventually get it, but it is so hard to be patient when you KNOW she can go for 7 hours…and it has been done before. But, I’ll be patient with her, she is learning and so am I.
